File this in the, ‘See, I told you so folder.’ I’ve been critical of the incumbent Sheriff of El Paso County because of the constant flip-flopping of policy with respect to illegal immigrants. Read my most recent post about this here: El Paso County Sheriff’s Illegal Immigration Policy Flip-Flop.
Now the Sheriff is being sued by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and yet another new policy seems to have emerged.
As Colorado Springs Independent reporter Pam Zubeck notes:
Sheriff Bill Elder also claims that policies on ICE detainees haven’t changed since 2007, which is puzzling given that the department claimed to have exited the federal program known as 287(g) in 2015. Back in February 2017, Elder told the Indy, “Even if we wanted to [house ICE detainees] we just don’t have any more room.”
It’s getting harder by the day to keep track of the different stories and policies that are coming forward.
It’s time to repeal and replace this regime. It’s time for some adult leadership at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Go to your precinct on caucus night, March 6th and bring every registered Republican friend, family member, and neighbor with you. Become a delegate for me and attend the General Assembly on March 24th.
If you are not a current member of EPSO, I will also gladly take your donation. Unlike the incumbent, I don’t think it’s ethical for a Sheriff – present or future – to take campaign cash from employees.
Every delegate counts and I need to count on you. Together we can do this!
